What changed with the 2025 regulations

The NMC notified the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025 in mid-2025 to widen the pool of eligible teachers. Points that matter most to colleges and candidates:

  • Specialists working in non-teaching government hospitals with at least 220 beds can be considered for faculty posts, with two years' experience for Assistant Professor and ten years for Associate Professor.
  • Those appointed without Senior Resident experience must complete the Basic Course in Biomedical Research within two years.
  • Faculty with M.Sc. and Ph.D. qualifications can again be appointed, within a capped share, in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, and now also in Microbiology and Pharmacology.
  • The upper age limit for Senior Residents in pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects was raised to 50 years.

We check each candidate's degrees, registration and experience certificates against the regulation's schedule for that subject before a profile is sent to a college.

Full-time appointments only. The NMC requires faculty to be full-time and tracks attendance through Aadhaar-enabled biometric systems. We do not arrange faculty for inspection days or part-time names on a declaration form. A college or doctor who does this risks NMC action and criminal proceedings.

Questions people ask us

Which faculty positions do you recruit for?

Tutor or Demonstrator, Senior Resident, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor, in pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical departments of medical colleges.

Which regulation decides who can be medical college faculty?

The National Medical Commission's Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025. Its schedule sets the qualification and experience needed for each designation in each subject.

Can a specialist from a government hospital become faculty without Senior Resident experience?

Under the 2025 regulations, specialists from non-teaching government hospitals with at least 220 beds can be considered for Assistant Professor after two years of service, and must then complete the Basic Course in Biomedical Research within two years. The exact conditions are in the regulation.

Can M.Sc. and Ph.D. holders teach in medical colleges?

Yes, within a capped share of posts in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pharmacology, as allowed by the 2025 regulations.

Do you provide part-time or visiting faculty for NMC inspections?

No. We recruit full-time faculty only. Showing faculty who do not actually work at a college is a violation of NMC rules.
